Introduction and Background

Welcome to the world of Sprintcar Racing and let us take you through the racing career of one of Australia's up and coming 'young guns'. After 15 successful years of racing starting with a pedal go-kart, country boy Dylan Jenkin is stepping up to the ultimate challenge, climbing aboard a 750 horsepower sprintcar.

Dylan was destined to be a petrol head with his father, John heavily involved in Speedway for many years, building his first car at only seventeen. dylan's racing career started at the early age of three when he took the wheel of a go-kart powered by a Victor 160 engine and wore out the middle of the Bordertown Speedway track. At age four, Dylan was racing competitively at tracks at Keith and Lucindale. By the time he was five and after stepping up to a Yamaha KT100J engine, he was competing at a State and National level, coming 5th in the Australian titles at only seven. Dylan went on to be successful in the J Juniors class and mixing it with the 'big boys' in the KT Open class, at this pint showing he had the potential of a top class racer.

At the age of thirteen, there was a need to go a step further, which is when Dylan's parents invested in a Datsun 1200 coupe to be raced as a Junior Sedan. This marked the start of Dylan's speedway career and took him to Murray Bridge, Renmark, Adelaide, Mt Gambier and his home town, Bordertown to compete. It didn't take long for Dylan to attract a fan club. With his friendly and easy going personality, people of all ages would flock to have a quick word with him after each race meeting.

In the 200/2001 season, the next step took Dylan into the newly formed V6 Sprints class. The open wheeled car, powered by a Mitsubishi V6 engine, proved to be challenge for the youngster, but it didn't take long for him to be mixing it with the top runner. He certainly rose to the challenge and after 12 months in the class, he was taking out championship events and breaking record after record. He had the respect of not only the spectators and officials, but also his fellow competitors. His smooth and concise driving makes him a pleasure to race with.

Dylan's dream ever since he could talk was to drive a sprintcar and with his family very speedway orientated and with his talent, he was always in good stead to turn this into reality. Dylan has put everything on the line to invest in his future career Sprintcar Racing. With the power-to-weight equal to a formula One Grand Prix Car, Sprintcar Racing requires staunch determination, imaginative engineering solutions and the right mixture of skill and bravery to be successful, which are the ingredients Dylan and his team possesses. He has been lucky enough to score a few laps at Murray bridge in the ex-Darren Disbury machine, which he has since purchased, already grabbing the attention of the experts in the class with his impressive driving.
