HOW BIG IS SPEEDWAY?
It is estimated that a minimum of 1,200,000 fans attended speedway racing around Australia in the 2003/2004 season. this added to the 3,918,000 viewers of the 10 program World Series Sprintcars highlights screened on commercial television with the Nine Network, SBS TV's 'Speedweek' and the 'Speed Machine' shown on Fox Sports, is an enormous amount of people. These figures incidentally are for Australia alone ignoring the massive international exposure in South East Asia for example.
HOW DOES THIS COMPARE WITH V8 SUPERCARS?
In 2002, V8 Supercars had attendance figures of 1,480,714, Adelaide's Clipsal 500 scoring crowds of 171,200 alone. This shows that the popularity of Speedway ranks only second behind the thriving V8 Supercars.
WHAT ABOUT SPRINTCAR RACING?
From the 121 Sprincar related events at 23 tracks across Australia in the 2003/2004 season, it was esitmated that more than 550,000 fans attended these meetings alone (an avererage of 4,500 people per event).
